RMU
A ring main unit (RMU) is a factory assembled, metal enclosed set of switchgear used at the load connection points of a ring-type distribution network.
The main functions of a Ring Main Unit (RMU) are circuit control, isolation from faulty equipment, and controlling circuits to switch functions. The main ring unit is deployed in a secondary distribution system
Each RMU switchgear has three main functions. It controls the circuit to switch functions, isolates faulty equipment from the remaining circuit, and protects the circuit from short-circuit faults, the ground-fault current, as well as overloads.
Ring Main Unit (RMU) is medium voltage switchgear that is employed in secondary distribution networks. They are utilized in-ring main electrical power distribution systems to provide a continuous power supply to the customer by shifting sources in event of any emergency or repair on the primary source.
Categories. Ring main units can be characterized by their type of insulation: air, oil or gas. The switch used to isolate the transformer can be a fusible switch, or may be a circuit breaker using vacuum or gas-insulated interrupters

PACKAGED SUBSTATION
Ready to Use Packaged Sub station is a type tested assembly comprising of an enclosure containing a medium voltage switchgear compartment, a distribution transformer compartment, a low voltage switchboard compartment along with interconnections to transform energy from medium to low voltage Systems.
The package & unit substation is a combination of the Ring Main unit, The Transformer and The Low-Voltage panel. A unit substation is a combination of a Transformer and a Low Voltage panel. These substations are used for effective electrical power distribution in medium voltage to low voltage distribution systems.
Package Substations are an efficient option to select when a large amount of power is required to feed a site with distributed LV especially when the customer site has access to a suitably rated high voltage power supply.
Packaged Substation Also called Compact Secondary Substation (CSS) is a type tested and arc tested assembly comprising an enclosure containing medium voltage (MV) switchgear, distribution transformers, low voltage (LV) switchboards, connections and auxiliary equipment to supply LV energy from MV systems.
A package substation usually consists of an RMU (Ring Main Unit) or a HV switch (High-Voltage switch), cast resin transformer, transformer housing, high-power copper or aluminium busbar which is directly connected to a main LV Switchboard.
